Understanding the religion is more important than mere memorisation of it.

The Prophet Sallallaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam said:

“Whoever Allaah wants good for He gives him understanding of the Religion”

We see that the extremists do not have understanding of the Religion. They just take portions of the Quran & Sunnah and apply them out of context.

In a hadith Qudsi, Allaah said:

“Indeed I have made haram upon myself Adh Dhulm (Oppression). And I have made it haram between yourselves, so do not oppress”

The Messenger of Allaah warned against oppression and extremism, what these misguided groups do are so far from Islaam! The true intent behind the actions of the Khawaarij is seeking the dunya. They want to satisfy their desires and emotions. Seeing what is happening to muslims throughout the world of course brings us sadness but we do not take this out on the innocent!

Many of the scholars, such as Shaykh Ibn Baaz, Shaykh Ubayd Al Jaabiree and others, hold that the Khawaarij are not muslims.

“Have you heard the Prophet say anything about the Khawaarij?” He said, “I heard him say: “a people will come out from there (pointing to Iraq) who will read the Quran but it will not go beyond their throats””

“And do not kill yourselves (nor kill one another).”4:29

Another hadith in which someone killed himself due to the pain he was going through in a legitimate battle, the Prophet said this man was in the fire!

The Khawaarij will declare all muslim lands to be disbelieving lands. The only ones they hold to be muslim are themselves. They have no scholars with them. The Prophet described them as “Foolish in their dreams and Young in Age”. Ibn Abbaas mentioned when he went to refute them that there are none of the companions of the Messenger of Allaah with them! They quote ayaat from Surat At Tawbah and Surat Al Anfaal regarding a legitimate battlefield and apply it here. We are not in a battlefield, the scholars mention we are in the position of those companions who went to Ethiopia to seek security from King Najashi. Their charachter and dealings whilst they lived there was so exemplary that the King himself became muslim!

“Allah does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on account of religion and did not drive you out of your homes. Verily, Allah loves those who deal with equity.” 60:8

We have even been forbidden from being unjust to animals, let alone innocent human beings!

We must take the path of the Prophet Sallallaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam. Calling the people to Tawheed. Cultivating them upon Tawheed. It may seem the long path, but this is the path to success, proven by the example of the Prophet Sallallaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam. Islam calls to bringing about Mercy in the community, to bringing about Justice. Where are the Khawaarij in regards to this?

We must fight their oppression with our tongues and our pens and clarify their reality.
