Explanation of a prophetic supplication, a khuṭbah by Ustādh Rayaan Barker (hafidhahullāh)

  • The supplication the Prophet ﷺ taught Shaddād ibn Aws, to be treasured in place of gold and silver
  • “I ask You for firmness in the matter”: firmness upon the religion, with the ḥadīth of Umm Salamah on “O Turner of hearts, make my heart firm upon Your religion”, and the need to take the religion from the right sources
  • “I ask You for determination upon guidance”: the lack in people is the resolve to act on what they hear
  • Gratitude for blessings with the heart, tongue and limbs, and perfecting worship through sincerity and following the Sunnah
  • A sound heart and a truthful tongue: the ḥadīth of the piece of flesh, and the limbs following the tongue
  • Asking for all the good Allāh knows, refuge from all the evil He knows, and forgiveness for the sins known and forgotten
