ʿĪd al-Fiṭr 1440H, a khuṭbah by Ustādh Rayaan Barker (hafidhahullāh)

  • Fear Allāh, thank Him for completing the fast of Ramaḍān, and give thanks for the worship He guided us to: fasting, charity and recitation of the Qurʾān
  • Islam has only three ʿĪds: ʿĪd al-Fiṭr, ʿĪd al-Aḍḥā and the weekly Jumuʿah; no other yearly celebrations are legislated
  • Zakāt al-Fiṭr: accepted as zakāt if given before the ʿĪd prayer; if given after, it counts as ordinary ṣadaqah
  • How many did not reach Ramaḍān, and how many reached it and died during it: the dunyā is the place of deeds, so attach the heart to good deeds and Jannah and be patient upon obedience
  • Two kinds of people on ʿĪd: those glad to be rid of fasting, and those glad because they achieved worship in Ramaḍān; be from the second group
  • Gathering for the ʿĪd prayer reminds us of being gathered before Allāh; do not let sins pile up, wipe them away with repentance and seeking forgiveness
