Save yourselves and your families from the fire

The title was derived from the verse:

“O you who believe! Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones, over which are (appointed) angels stern (and) severe, who disobey not, (from executing) the Commands they receive from Allah, but do that which they are commanded.” 66:6

Only a person with Imaan can save himself from the fire

What are the pillars of Imaan?

  1. Belief in Allah
  2. Belief in the Angels
  3. Belief in the heavenly books
  4. Belief in the Messengers of Allah
  5. Belief in the Last Day
  6. Belief in the Qadar

What is the definition of Imaan?

  • Belief in the Heart
  • Actions of the body
  • Speech on the tongue

We also need to know the things that can take away ones Imaan, they are many. For example, someone who prostrates or supplicates to other than Allah.

It is not enough to say that we believe, we must also perform the actions, for example the five pillars of Islam. The most important, after Tawheed being the prayer. We also give Zakaat to the poor, we fast the month of Ramadan and perform the Hajj. Are these the only actions we take?

And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents.” 17:23

We must be dutiful to our parents, in fact, the messenger of Allah said that disrespecting ones parents was the worst sins after Shirk.

On the day of Judgment there will be people between Paradise and Hell:

And between them will be a barrier screen and on Al-A’raf (a wall with elevated places) will be men” 7:46

Some of the scholars said that these are people, who had 1 parent that was not pleased with them.

If you have any friends, that speak bad of their parents, you should tell them to stop doing so. If they don’t stop then you should make new friends. We should try to save ourselves and our families from the fire. It is not “cool” to listen to music or to smoke or take drugs. We should not do these things and avoid people that do. We should not have hairstyles or clothing that are not allowed in Islam.  Say: “The Fire of Hell is more intense in heat”, if only they could understand! 9:81

The prophet said that a person will be like his friend, so be careful who you take as friends. He gave a really good example. The perfume seller who smells very nice, whereas the blacksmith who works with metals and fire and can be dirty. So if you visit the perfume seller, you will come out smelling nice at the very least – even if he doesn’t give you something. If you visit the blacksmith, if he does not burn your clothes, he will at least leave a bad smell.
