We move onto the chapter: ‘Removal of Impurity’

A muslim is commanded to remove impurity.

Allaah says: “And purify your garments!” (74:4)

Likewise, the Messenger of Allaah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) ordered a woman to wash the menstrual  blood from her garment.

Water is the basic means for removing impurities, as Allaah says: ‘and He caused water (rain) to descend on you from the sky, to clean you thereby’ (8:11).

Some scholars, such as Shaykh Ibn Baaz and Shaykh Albani, hold that only water can be used to remove impurity, except where there is an exception.

Other scholars, such as Shaykh Uthaymeen hold that other than water can be used to remove impurities, whether that is steam, oil or other means, so long as the impurity is removed.

Some scholars use the evidence of water being used when the man urinated in the masjid at the time of the Prophet Sallallaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam.

However, some Scholars say these other substances (such as oil) were not around in that time.
